New Development regarding the Internet

13 October 2008

Although the financial crisis is hitting many language businesses, Prestige is growing and expanding in many exciting ways and is going from strength to strength. Recently Anthony Fleming has taken charge of all Internet activities and the company now has its own dedicated Internet Division.

Anthony commented that “The Internet is like a huge ocean and so many pearls lie hidden from the untrained eye. With the help of my Internet Team we intend to substantially grow this side of the business very quickly. With a number of web sites to maintain and develop (see a partial list below) I have more than a full time job. This is a new challenge and one that I am very excited about. If I can be of service to you please contact me on 01635 866 888 (ext 274).”

Translating for Tribe

15 July 2008

In November 2007, Prestige Network was approached by the BBC to translate a script for the popular BBC2 television series ‘Tribe’.

The ‘Tribe’ series of programmes follows Bruce Parry, expedition leader and explorer, as he integrates himself into the everyday lives of some of the worlds most isolated communities.

The episode in question dealt with the Nenets; reindeer herders of the Siberian Arctic tundra.

The script was translated from English into Russian for a special DVD as part of the BBC’s thanks to the Nenets for allowing their lives to be documented for a worldwide audience.

Simultaneous Interpreting and Translation Services for Open City

8 May 2008

A Conference Interpreting Case Study – March 2008

Languages: French, Italian, German and Spanish
Location: Berlin, Germany
Sector: Medical
Date: 13th, 14th and 15th March 2008
Aim: To introduce and inform the audiences on a new product

Project Outline: Prestige Network was contacted when a client of Open City approached them with a requirement for conference interpreting.

The medical conference was to be held in Berlin, Germany, required highly skilled linguists who would not only have a good command over the language, but who would also be well-versed with medical technology.

Prestige Network rose to the challenge and supplied the client with highly competent and qualified interpreters in French, Italian, German and Spanish.

The conference was a success and the audience appreciated the fact that their language needs were taken into consideration.

Prestige remarks that “This conference was another feather in our cap, and it was a challenge that we fully rose to. Our main task was to identify the right interpreters for this conference. Needless to say there were also other elements to be taken into consideration such as making arrangements for the interpreters to travel abroad and ensuring that they had enough of a background on the job they were going for. We are happy that we could be of help and we look forward to many more such projects!

Customer Feedback: Our customer commented “The event was a success and the interpreters provided by Prestige were excellent, professional and knew exactly what was required of them”.

Financial Mail on Sunday Translation

8 May 2008

A Polish Translation Case Study – November 2007

Aim: To enable the Financial Mail on Sunday to engage with its Polish readers by translating a special supplement on ‘Poles in Britain’ into Polish and providing a Polish translation of an online forum

Project Outline: An innovative translation service project which involved translating into Polish – within a matter of days – 6,000 words of a Financial Mail on Sunday report highlighting the financial aspect of the sizeable Polish population currently in the UK.

The Polish translation of the supplement was made available on the Financial Mail on Sunday’s website at www.thisismoney.co.uk/a-thisismoney-special and also appeared subsequently in print in the Polish Express.

Publication of the supplement was followed by an online forum on the subject on the Financial Mail on Sunday website, which was also translated into Polish for the website by Prestige Network.

The project means that the Financial Mail on Sunday has become what is believed to be the first national newspaper in the UK to provide a supplement in Polish.

Polish Newspaper and Web Site Translation

Prestige Remarks that “This kind of innovation is a great way of engaging people from other cultures, helping them not to feel disenfranchised. We felt hugely privileged to be approached to enable the Financial Mail on Sunday to be the first national newspaper to produce a supplement in Polish. It was very satisfying to be involved in such an initiative.”

And the customer says “This was a very exciting project. Prestige Network worked well with us and got behind the spirit of the initiative, which was to do something innovative to engage a growing part of the population. We’ve had a lot of very positive feedback on the project and we are already planning to do another one.”
